An Entertaining Evening with 'David Archer'
Tim Bentinck came and talked to Wye Arts on March 20th about playing ‘David Archer’ in the long running Radio 4 agricultural soap. The Large Hall was a sell out and it was a great evening. Tim regaled us with ‘inside’ stories of the cast and dramas associated with the show’s production. He also described the hi-tech sound effects machinery used to simulate everything from cows calving to Bert Fry’s cauliflowers being dug up. These seemed to consist mainly of an ironing board and a yoghurt pot! A thoroughly charming and entertaining performance ended with Tim kindly giving away a number of Archers’ scripts, for signed copies of which a long queue rapidly formed. The evening produced a profit of £420 which Wye Arts very kindly donated to Wye Centre. We are extremely grateful and hope we may be able to cooperate on other events in the future. Thanks to Kathy Roberts and the Wye Arts team who worked so hard to make it a success –and from our side a big thank you to Karen Warden who worked tirelessly in difficult circumstances to help to promote the evening.
