Wye Cubs tree moving skills benefit mini-beasts
When the high winds of 30th April brought down a large tree branch in the village hall car park the Wye Cubs decided to move it across the field where it could become a habitat for our smaller wildlife. Here is a report of the fun: "Who'd have thought that 30 cubs would find the idea of moving half a tree across a playing field quite so much fun?!!
We had 4 strong ropes attached with more combined pulling power than Santa's sleigh and 5 trunk bearers to prevent them ploughing a deep furrow as they sped across the field. In fact, they were so quick getting there I decided to get them to do a full lap of honour of the field, much to the amusement (bemusement?) of all the players on the tennis court, before steering it between and under some trees over by the concrete fence at the far side. It turns out that a large branch under tow has roughly the same manoeuvrability as a large sea vessel, albeit with slightly less control when under cub-power!
All their knots held firm; an excellent display of the power of teamwork; jolly good fun and one more home for our favourite creepy crawlies." Won-Tolla, 2nd Wye Cub Scouts
